Visiting Empordà is the opportunity to discover a variety of shoes that are found in many places around the world. Slate slopes, sand valleys. Sediments of river origin, lands rich in silt and clay, gravel soils… Lands that have seen how different civilizations cultivated the art of wine. This heterogeneity of the layers in which its vineyards grow allows Perelada to obtain grapes with a very wide range of matrices.
We present our new Wine Tourism route through these lands, visiting the wineries founded in 1900, with lands that helped reduce the effects of climate change in the vineyards of the Cap de Creus and Alt Empordà area.
The elevation of this farm (850-1,300 meters), in an area of good solar exposure and surrounded by an important forest mass, together with a historical slope that has a hermitage and old grape fermentation vats excavated in the rocks by the monks of the hospital order (twelfth century), make the place have a privileged and magical environment.
The land in this winery is calcareous in general, low in organic matter, which together with the continental climate, with a high thermal contrast between day and night, makes it possible to obtain wines of the highest quality.
Catalan cuisine is characterized by its rural tradition in which products from the sea, the interior and the mountain come together. Representative of the Mediterranean diet, Catalan cuisine stands out for its wide variety.
The interior character, away from the sea, has made the area for centuries remote from the commercialization routes, obtaining wines with their own characteristic elements.
Innovations in grape varieties and production methods. It was the first place in Catalonia where the varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay were introduced, along with the native varieties, and Californian winemaking techniques were adopted.
